Micro/Macro Mules

A "Mule" is created when a note is printed with an older micro-sized plate serial number on one side and a macro-sized plate serial number on the other. 1928B series Mules are created when a 1928B face plate (micro-size) was mated to a sheet printed with a newer macro-size BP. And the opposite is true for 1928C series Mules, in which a 1928C face plate (macro-size) was mated to a sheet printed with an older micro-sized BP.

A majority of 1928B and 1928C Series $5 LT Mules available are fairly common, but there are some Mules from these two series that are the exact opposite... very rare. For example, 1928B series Mules can only be found in the E-A and *-A blocks. 1928B series E-A block Mules are fairly common and the *-A block Mules are extremely rare.

1928C series Mules can be found in all four blocks that they were serial numbered with, including the E-A, F-A, G-A, and *-A blocks. 1928C series E-A block Mules are common, but both the F-A block Mules and *-A block Mules are rare. All three of these blocks were printed on older micro-size back plates.

The G-A block Mules are also rare but were printed with LFBP (Late-Finished Back Plate) #637, which is covered on a separate page and census.
